The convertible Hudson

Here is this 1948 Hudson Commodore, on the side the convertible version imagined by Franquin, and below in the reality. This picture comes from André Bartholdi's page which presents this superb classic car. AS Franquin mentioned this car in the Intégrale Franquin, volume 8, page 258, he hesitated between the manufacture years 1943 and 1944… However, as I could understand during my search (see the history of the brand), this model has been manufactured only from 1948, ie the year when Jijé and his gang arrived in New York (anyway, no car has been produced in the US between 1943 et 1945, because all the plants worked for the army). So their used Hudson was very recent!

You can notice all the little details drawn by Franquin on the bumpers, the fenders…

As a conclusion, the brand Hudson disappeared in 1957 but the company could survive with varying success until the mid-eighties under the name AMC. It was bought by Renault in 1979 and sold back to Chrysler in 1987…
